Transitioning from a team member into a management role comes with challenges. A shift in mindset and new skill sets are required. This 3 days management essentials programme is designed for new or potential candidates entering management positions. The program covers the core skills that all managers need to manage a team effectively and get results.

Outline

module 1: Becoming a successful Manager

In this module we explore the fundamental skills, attributes and behaviours of highly effective managers. We identify best practices for managers and explore some of the challenges and pitfalls that new managers can face. Participants also learn and gain insight into their own managerial style.

module 2: Communication and influence

In module two participants explore strategies on how to communicate assertively and effectively with their team members. Participants also learn how to identify individual preferred communication styles and how to use this influence others.

module 3: Delegation Skills

Learning how to delegate effectively is crucial in any management position. Module three provides the participants with a step by step process to delegation. Through the situational leadership model, participants also learn how to delegate differently to different people while taking into consideration different skill sets and varying maturity levels.

module 4: Managing Time and Prioritising

As a manager it is important to use your time effectively and to ensure that you are prioritising your tasks and workload. This module teaches the participants how to set objectives and SMART goals and provides them with a process and tools for prioritising their work effectively.

module 5: Giving Feedback

Providing feedback to team members is essential for success and team member development. However, if feedback is delivered incorrectly, it can have a demanding impact on an individual or team. This module provide participants with the steps, processes and models for giving effective feedback in different situations.

module 6: Managing Conflict

As manager it is inevitable that you will have to manage conflicts within your team. If a conflict is managed correctly it can strengthen a team. However if it is managed incorrectly a teams morale can be damaged. This module covers effective strategies for managing common conflicts within a team.

module 7: Coaching your team for success

In this module we cover the core skills of coaching. We provide the participants with the structure and process to conducting a coaching conversation with a team member. We also give the participants the opportunity to coach and be coached.

module 8: Motivating and empowering others

A good manager knows how to motivate and drive a team. In this last session of the programme we focus on what drives people and how to motivate them. We also explore actions that demotivate people and how to avoid them
